The barn was equiped with a intercom, fire alarm to house and nearby firestation and sprinkler system. this was a 20 stall barn. the owners were awaken by the horses noises via the intercom even before the alarm went off; they were in the process of getting dressed to go to the barn when the alarm went off.. I remember seeing an intercom system years ago that worked over the electrical wiring. worked ok too. i haven't ever seen them advertised or for sale but that's not to say they're not still around. i have a phone in the shed but its an extension from the house. cordless phones don't work because my shed is down a rather steep hill from the house.. A home intercom system is doing away with this old trope. getting more inexpensive by the day, a home intercom system is fast becoming an effective tool for safety and security in the house and even when you're away..
We also wanted a intercom in my garage, mainly for safety as i have had several falls, i used two spare wires on my phone line to connect intercom from house to office some 70 mtrs, then i put a phone cable from office to garage to connect the intercom in garage..
